Background
Refugees are people who have fled war, violence, conflict or persecution and have crossed an international border to find safety in another country.
Before their claim for refugee status are granted, they are considered as ‘asylum seekers’. The waiting time for asylum claims are exceptionally long, various from years to over a decade.
While waiting, refugees and asylum seekers are facing great deal of challenges. They not allowed to work in Hong Kong and are forced to depend solely on the humanitarian assistance provided by the government and NGOs. Daily necessities are usually scarce, including food, transportations, clothes, accommodations and quality medical service etc. Despite the language and cultural barriers, it is not uncommon for them to experience discrimination and stigmatization.
Project I Dignity is an initiative to mobilize and organize local community partners, businesses and service providers to offer their supports towards refugees and asylum seekers living in their neighborhoods through providing discounts and services.
